Contest #3
As soon as I saw this hat on the Interweave Knits web site, I fell in love. Heck, I even subscribed just to get this issue (FREE!) and I'm sure I'll love the rest of the magazine. Doesn't it make you think of the steam coming off of a coffee cup? Then I started imagining all the wonderful color combinations that would work to make it extra special. The pattern calls for Blue Moon STR (Socks That Rock) medium weight sock yarn, which means that any sock yarn would work! Oh, the possibilities!
I've been thoroughly investigating sock yarns to see which ones I like and which ones I don't. That means fibers, dye combinations, you name it. Recently, I discovered the yarns of this wonderful company, Claudia's Hand Paints. Ok, so the pictures aren't from her site, but they showed off the colors so well! (Pictures are from The Loopy Ewe, but are not stealing bandwidth!) The one to the right is called "Butter Pecan". The colors shown here aren't perfect (it's a little more reddish) but it's definitely close. Yup, this is warmer than just a true white ...
And then there's this. Mmmmm. You can almost smell the cappuccino. Ok, maybe you can't, but I sure can! This one is called Copper Penny. Put these two together and what a wonderful hat! If you wanted to make a Latte out of it, then use the Butter Pecan as the main color. Regardless, I'd love to have this merino wool bit of wonderment on my head this winter.
That's my story ... and I'm sticking to it! Cheers everyone and thanks again to Knittymama for another cool contest!
