How to sign up

THE KNITTERS' COFFEE SWAP FOUR SIGN UP INFO

STILL LOTS OF SPOTS LEFT!!!!

Read everything. Twice. Thanks! :-)

-You must love coffee and be a knitter/crocheter, or course!

-This is an international swap, so be sure to let me know if you are NOT willing to ship internationally so I can pair you accordingly.

-A blog will be required for this round, with a minimum of 10 posts and an average of 2 posts per month. It makes it much easier for your pal to get to know you and it just makes it more fun. (Exception: if you have been a successful swapper on KCS before you may sign up w/out a blog).

-The box should value around $40 (not including postage) and at the minimum it must include:

-coffee! (about a pound, and we’re talking the good stuff here! No Sanka.
-1-2 skeins of yarn, enough for a small project such as a hat, socks, a scarf, etc.
-treats to go with the coffee

Other things you could include might be a mug or travel mug, coffee accessories, knitting accessories, recipes...get creative! I've provided a few links on the side to get you started.

-This is not a secret swap. You will know your pal and your pal will know you.

-Please do not sign up unless you absolutely, positively know you will not flake on your pal and that you are going to put together a brilliant package. If you do flake, you’ll be barred from any future swaps and disappoint all of us, oh so very much!

-If you're under 18 please have your parents permission to do the swap.

-Sign ups will be open January 21st at 6pm Central, to the first 50 people who sign up. Sign ups will close as soon as we reach 50 or by Sunday, January 25th at 6pm. I will announce on this blog when we are closed. Pals will be matched by January 28th , and you will have three weeks to get your package put together and shipped. All packages should be mailed by February 18th . (International? Plan ahead!)

Interested? To sign up, email the following info to me at: coffeeswap AT yahoo DOT com

Name:
Email:
Blog Address:
Country:
Any important allergies or things you want your pal to know?
Will you take an international pal?
Can you be an angel/half angel if we have someone flake??

Please, you must complete all the questions to be placed in the swap. Don't try to sneak in early or you'll be skipped!

Your confirmation will be the Blogger invite to this blog. Please be sure to accept the invitation and then post to the Knitters' Coffee Swap blog. If you don't accept and introduce yourself within three days we will give your spot to another knitter.* Use the blog to introduce yourself and to share your package with us when you receive it. Also feel free to post coffee links, recipes, ideas, your latest project, or whatever is your fancy.

You will be grouped with a hostess and matched up by the 28th. When you are matched up, we will provide questions to help you put together the best package for your swap pal. Be sure to check your bulk mail boxes in case your partner information gets stuck in there. You must e-mail your partner within three days as well, or again, you will be dropped and replaced.*

Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions or suggestions. There will be contests and I'd love suggestions and prize donations. We also could use a new button.

Thanks and have fun!!!

**Sorry for all the "you'd better or we'll drop you" stuff, but after running three swaps I've learned that the biggest headache comes from the the non-responders. The other big headache comes from the swappers who don't read directions (twice folks, read twice!!). And one more giant headache comes from the people who think that this swap is my full time job and forget that I have three small boys and a part time job, and then get all pissy with me when I don't reply within 5 minutes. PLEASE, I love swaps, but the KCSIII was not as much fun because of the above reasons. Reply, read twice, be gentle and we'll all have fun, okay?? :-)

Sign ups open soon!!!!

Sign ups will open on January 21st at 6pm central. Directions will be posted sometime in the next 24 hours!!

Blog reorganization....

Just an FYI to past participants....We're going to reconfigure this blog a bit to start from scratch for Coffeeswap Four, opening up later this month. All posts will remain, but members will be deleted to make room for KCS IV participants. I will probably KCSIII back into this blog as well...

Updates!

Hey Coffeeswappers!

I hope you've been having a wonderful summer. It's already time for me to start thinking about our next swap, but before I post a few ideas about that I wanted to make sure that everyone is settled from the last swap. I had a few people who needed angels and a few who thought they might but then said their package was on the way. Did everyone get a package? I don't want anyone to be left feeling glum about their experience with this swap.

Moving on to FALL SWAP INFO!!!! ( I know you are excited about this, but don't sign up quite yet:-)

Their will be a fall swap (October) and this might be the last one I do, not sure yet. The first swap wasn't that tough as I limited it to about 50 people so it felt very manageable. This last one was well over a hundred and as much fun as it was, it took my life over a bit for quite awhile and I still don't feel like it is quite wrapped up yet. So here's what I'm thinking of:

-Keeping it open to a bigger group but using Swapbot to do the matches. This would be easier for me but then I can't try to match people up with similar interests, allergies, needs, international, etc.

-Limiting it to 50 again. This means a lot of people get left out and I like to include everyone as much as possible.

-Not being a total control freak and realizing that I should get a couple co-hostesses who have done the swap before, preferable with swap experience. My only worry with this is that someone will volunteer and either flake or just not do that great of a job with it.

Okay people, now is when you bombard me with ideas and suggestions! :-) I know there will be lots!

What a bunch of angels!!!!

Wow, you knitters rock!!! I had ten people volunteer. We ended up with three needing angels and so I just matched them up in the order people volunteered. So, if you are going to be an angel you should get an e-mail from me today. Thank you so very, very much to all those volunteers!!

Also, if you didn't get your package now's the time to let me know as I'll be wrapping this all up soon. Once I do I won't be checking the swap e-mail that often, so don't get left in the cold! :-)

Angels needed!!! (Also titled: "Did You Ditch Your Pal?")

Wow...after seeing all the wonderful packages I am so bummed to have to make this post. The first coffee swap went off nearly without a hitch and this one started out so swimmingly; no problems at all. But as it is wrapping up it seems we have a few members who have had partners who have ditched them, which means we need a few angels. Anyone want to help out? I figure people can either be an angel all on their own, or if there are people who can't be an entire angel, maybe we could have a few "half angels" who work with another member to send off two smaller packages to someone rather than one big one. So, if you'd like to be an angel and help a few of our lovely members who have been neglected by their pals, please e-mail me at coffeeswap AT yahoo DOT com and I'll set people up. Thank you SO VERY MUCH!!!

Now I'll add this: please, please, please....if you have not sent your pal a package please do so now, let them know it's coming and let me know it's coming. Or at least, e-mail me and let me know what the heck happened.

Wrapping it up...

Wow, hard to believe our swap time is coming to an end! I'm loving the beautiful packages everyone is showing off. This has been a great swap...I haven't had one complaint about missing partners or packages, hope it keeps up!! If you haven't posted about your package, please do so either on this blog or your own. It's a nice way to acknowledge your swap partner and give 'em a little shout out.

Now for some business:

As of today, you should have received your swap package. Delays are understandable, but please let your swap partner know if you're running behind and let them know the ETA. If for some reason your partner has gone missing on you, please e-mail me asap.

Contest Number Three is now closed. You guys did a fabulous job sharing yarns and patterns. I've got a bunch of new ones on my "to knit" list now! The winners should be announced later on this week.

I will be offline starting this Thursday for awhile, as I'm off to Estes (anyone else going?) I'll be getting back to e-mails later on in the month.

Swap Update

By now everyone should have sent their partner an e-mail to say "hi." If you haven't heard from your partner yet, please let me know and I'll try to see what's up.

Now the fun part: shopping! Need a reminder of the rules?

The box should value around $30 - $40 (not including postage) and at the minimum it must include:

-coffee! (about a pound, and we’re talking the good stuff here!:-)
-1-2 skeins of yarn, enough for a small project such as a hat, socks, a scarf, etc.
-treats to go with the coffee (chocolate, cookies, candy, etc.)

Other things you could include might be a mug or travel mug, coffee accessories, knitting accessories, recipes...get creative! I've provided a few links on the side to get you started.

Remember to take advantage of some of the special offers we have from some of our members. Also, if you have an online shop, let me know and I'll add you to the sidebar. If you need package ideas check out the archives for last November and December. You'll see some gorgeous packages!!!

I'm heading to Toronto for the next four days so I'm not sure how much I'll be online, but I will still try to keep up with things. If you've got any great Toronto suggestions, let me know!

Oh, and thanks for the map links. I'll get them up soon!

Phew!

It's done. Partners are out, and I'm beat. Funny, 100 or so really didn't seem like that much until I started matching you all up and sending out the e-mails. I think we are actually around 112 for this round, which is awesome! I'm so happy to see so many posts so far for the first contest and thrilled to see everyone having a great time.

Try to drop your partner a quick "hello" note and answer the questions in the next couple of days.

Remember to check your junk boxes, and if you didn't get anything from me drop me an e-mail and let me know. Also, let me know if you don't hear from your partner by the end of the week.

Check your junk boxes!!!

I've sent out about 40 partners so far...just a reminmder to be sure to check your junk mail boxes just in case my e-mail or one from your partnert ended up in there.

Ciao from Maryland!

Greetings all. I was so excited when I got the invite for the 2nd swap. I had found the original blog swap like a week after it had closed, so I have been waiting for April for a long time *laugh*

I am an elementary school library media specialist who owns a 13 pound, green eyed, black cat named Frisco (Not the least bit supersticious!). I also crochet (almost 20 years now) and knit (almost a year). So that's 2 strikes I have toward the typical old-fashioned librarian stereotype *laugh* BUT that is definately where it ends. After that I fall more into the "Lipstick Librarian" catagory and get WILD!

And I start my days off with a nice, tall, soy latte! YUMMY!

I love all the new buttons people have made!

If you ship to Canada....

Hopefully I'll remember to remind you guys about this later, but thought I'd put it up now in case I forget. Check out this post on USPS vs. UPS.

Another So. Californian

Hi all! My name is Kamika and I live in Long Beach, CA. I've been knitting for about 3 years and I just recently picked crocheting back up as well. I'm single with no kids and a tea nut! I especially love herbal teas like Hibiscus and fruit infused with honey or black teas like Almond, Chai, or Mate with heavy creams and syrups. Love love love tea lattes. I love reading and creative projects as well as food! I've also lately been really building my craft book library.

I was so happy to get the invite for this swap as it is my FIRST! Yep, I'm a Swap Virgin. I look forward to sharing and speaking to many of you. To get the conversation started, feel free to stop by my blog or even steal my button!

Kamika

Just to Clarify....

When you get you're Blogger invite, that is also your Coffee Swap invite, so once you've gotten that, you're in!

Glad to see so many contest entries already!!!

That's a lot of coffee lovin' kniters

The invites are out. If for some reason you think you signed up on time but didn't get an invite please let me know. I'm starting to fall asleep at the computer and I'm afraid I missed a couple of you. Partners will start going out soon.

You're all so kind with your get well wishes for Knittybaby. I think his fever has broken, thank goodness. He's pretty much slept on my lap all day...

I've enjoyed all your introductions, keep them coming! This will be a great swap!

Invites are coming

Poor Knittybaby is still on the outs. I'm thinking Roseola, as we're on 72 hours of fever now and he's got just the tiniest rash on his cheeks. I'm working on invites while he naps on my lap, in between trying to keep a bored Little Man occupied.

Right now I've got about 20 invites sent out. Everyone should have their invite by Friday night, so if you don't hear back from me then, drop me a note. If you were in Coffeeswap One, you'll just get an e-mail saying you're in, since you're already on the blog.

Once you've got an invite, please post an introduction about yourself. This is the first contest!!! Everyone who posts an introduction by April 30th gets one entry to be picked at random. The prize will either be a needle roll or project bag, your choice. Coffee themed, of course!!

Once invites are out, I'll start working on partners. I'll send out international first, then USA. I'm hoping to get this all done by the time I leave for Toronto next Friday.
